Explore the Museum

The Stone Science Museum opened in 1989, near the Isle of Anglesey’s east coast. From the very beginning visitors loved its novel and innovative approach to all things stone and bone. It quickly became, and remains, one of the island’s most popular visitor attractions, seeing hundreds of families and schools through its doors each year.

The Stone Science museum transports visitors back through 650 million years with one of the most comprehensive and eclectic geology collections in Wales. Set over 2 large floors, Stone Science has a unique mix of fossils, minerals both common and rare. Life size reconstructions of parts of dinosaurs combined with hands on samples and videos make it a wonderful learning environment for children and adults alike.

See and touch real fossil displays including a dinosaur egg, teeth, and even poo! All exhibits on display come from the personal collection of museum owner and curator geologist Dave Wilson. A collection amassed during his extensive, collecting travels throughout the world. Important collections of fossil fish from the Lebanon, Ancient American arrowheads and Anglesey rocks are also housed in the museum.

Families tend to make a return visit year after year. We have for many years regarded our entry ticket as a holiday ticket, allowing as many return visits in a fortnight as wished. Our visitors appreciate this as there are so many specimens, it is difficult to spot them all in one visit.

As well as the museum, why not enhance your visit by exploring the Stone Science Shop? It’s the perfect place to find a truly unique gift or souvenir. On sale you’ll find fossils, crystals, rare stones and gems, models, books and much, much more.

Stone Science makes for a truly wonderful day out. And, being conveniently situated just a couple of miles from Anglesey’s eastern coastline (a renowned, fossil rich area), makes it perfect for combining with fossil hunting trips on one of the island’s many wonderful beaches.

We look forward to welcoming you to Stone Science!
